Dave Matthews Band Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

From the early hit of Satellite to the latest hits, The Dave Matthews Band has made quite a name for itself. They are coming to play at the Cricket Pavilion here in Phoenix, so get for an easy rock night. Here is some info from their wiki:

In November 1990, songwriter David John Matthews was working in Charlottesville as a bartender at a bar named Miller’s. One particular friend that he had made in his time there was a lawyer named Ross Hoffman. Hoffman convinced Matthews to lay down a demo of the few songs he had written even though the songwriter was shy and “scared shitless” of playing in front of people. Hoffman hoped that Matthews could shop the songs in hopes of finding other musicians to perform on some studio work with him. Hoffman encouraged Dave to approach Carter Beauford, a local musician on the Charlottesville music scene. Beauford, at that point, had been in several bands and was currently playing on a jazz show on Black Entertainment Television (BET). After hearing the demo, Carter agreed to spend some time playing with Matthews, both inside and outside the studio. Dave also approached LeRoi Moore, another local jazz musician who often performed with the John D’earth Quintet, and asked if he would be interested in joining them. Not being aware that Matthews was more than the bartender at Miller’s, Moore skeptically listened to the demo. However, Moore liked what he heard and decided that he too would give the young South African a chance. These three began working on Dave’s songs in 1991. Their limited instrumentals did not provide the full sound they desired; more musicians were needed.

Moore’s former bandmate, John D’earth, conductor of the University of Virginia Orchestra and local musician, taught music at the Tandem School. Stefan Lessard, a junior bassist at that time, was under his guidance and was in the student jazz combo, Yabanci Jazzites. On the recommendation of John D’earth, the sixteen-year-old Lessard was asked to join in the studio to help complete the demo. While the partnership was never intended to continue beyond the studio, the four liked the sound and decided to continue together for live performances, as well. Consequently, regular practices began in the basements of Carter Beauford and Dave’s mothers’ homes.

Def Leppard Concert Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

The first thing that comes to my head when I hear the name Def Leppard is, “Poor some sugar on me…” I also think how cool it is that the drummer only has one arm. If you want an old school trip, come to the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix. Here is some info from their wiki:

The music of Def Leppard is a mixture of hard rock, glam rock, AOR, and heavy metal elements. The band has been associated with the pop metal movement of the 1980s and the contemporaneous NWOBHM genre of the late 1970s. The band’s songs generally feature simple guitar hooks and catchy, melodic choruses. The Def Leppard sound is also characterised by its combination of hard rock and polished melodic backing vocals.

By the release of the Hysteria record, the band had developed a distinctive sound featuring heavily processed drums and effects-laden “space-age” guitar sounds, overlaid with a multi-layered wall of husky, harmonised vocals. Def Leppard is one of only five rock bands with two original albums selling over 10 million copies each in the U.S. The others are Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Eagles and Van Halen.

Rush Concert Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

Rush has been together for a long time and they have many loyal fans. They are coming to play at the Cricket Pavilion right here in Phoenix. Here is some info from their wiki:

Rush is a Canadian rock band comprising bassist, keyboardist, and vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. Rush was formed in the summer of 1968, in the neighborhood of Willowdale in Toronto, Ontario, by Lifeson, Lee, and John Rutsey. Peart replaced Rutsey on drums in July 1974, two weeks before the group’s first U.S. tour, to complete the present lineup. Since the release of the band’s self-titled debut album in 1974 Rush has become known for the instrumental virtuosity of its members, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on science fiction, fantasy, and individualist libertarian philosophy, as well as addressing humanitarian and environmental concerns.

Musically, Rush has changed its style dramatically over the years, beginning in the vein of blues-inspired heavy metal on their eponymous debut to styles encompassing hard rock, progressive rock, a period dominated by synthesizers and, more recently, modern rock. Rush’s three decades of continued success under the lineup of Lee, Lifeson, and Peart have earned the band the respect of their musical peers. Rush has influenced various modern artists such as Metallica, The Smashing Pumpkins and Primus, as well as many notable progressive metal bands such as Dream Theater and Symphony X.

Ozzfest Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

For hardcore rock and deathmetal lovers there is nothing better then Ozzfest. Some of the names on the tour this year are: Ozzy Osbourne, Lamb of God, Lordi, Hatebreed, Behemoth, and more. If you want to get moshing, the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix is the place to be. Here is some info from its wiki:

The festival was created in 1996, when organizers of musical festival Lollapalooza refused to let Ozzy Osbourne join the tour. The tour was very well-received, which prompted the Osbournes to have the festival become a yearly occurrence.

In 1998, Ozzfest ventured outside the United States for the first time for the United Kingdom, which featured a different lineup. After 4 shows, however, Main Stage act Korn dropped out of the tour, due to the wife of one of the band members giving birth. The festival would eventually return to the UK, appearing in 2001, 2002, and 2005.

In 2002, Ozzfest expanded its borders into central Europe. Included were 16 venues across Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Finland and Russia among other nations. The festival, however, was marked by the death of Drowning Pool frontman Dave Williams, who was found dead of an undiagnosed heart condition on their bus. Tommy Lee replaced the band for the rest of the tour.

On-stage footage of the Ozzfest 2004 tour was shown on MTV. They hosted a show titled Battle for Ozzfest where Ozzy and Sharon chose eight out of hundreds of bands to compete for a spot on the following year’s Ozzfest. Ozzy selected one member of each band to “tag along” on the tour doing various tasks (some just to anger the contestants) and there were occasional meetings to decide which contestant was to leave that week for whatever reason. Marc Serrano from A Dozen Furies was the winner.

Vans Warped Tour Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

Warped Tour is rolling around again. This tour has been a favorite for punk rockers since it first started in the 90’s. There are some of the big names this year. Here is some info from its wiki:

Warped Tour is a touring music and extreme sports festival. The tour is held in venues (generally parking lots or fields upon which the stages and other structures are erected) with capacities which range from 10,000 to 30,000. The skateboarding shoe manufacturer Vans has sponsored the tour every year since 1995 and it is often referred to as the Vans Warped Tour.

In recent years, the Warped Tour has featured as many as 100 bands per show. The bands play for up to 30 minutes over approximately 10 different stages, although the biggest bands generally play the two “Main” stages. A typical day would have bands starting at 11:00am and end at 9:00 p.m. with several bands playing at once. The individual band times and stages where each band play is marked on a large board usually centered in the middle of the venue. The full area is set up to prevent music from one stage disrupting other active stages. One band, by fan vote, is allowed to play ten extra minutes at each show. Every year there is a “BBQ Band,” which, in exchange for the privilege of playing on the tour, must prepare food for the bands and crew for the barbeque which is held most evenings.[1] The tour started as a skate punk, and third wave ska tour, but in recent years has featured mostly post-hardcore, pop punk, and metalcore acts.

Honda Civic Tour 2007 Featuring Fall Out Boy Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

Fall Out Boy is rocking its way to the Cricket Pavilion. When I first saw this band I thought they were from Ireland, but it turns out they are form Chicago (close enough!). These guys are dang awesome, so don’t miss them when they hit up Phoenix. Here is some info from their wiki:

The band released a Split EP with Project Rocket in 2002 on Uprising Records. The band then released their debut album Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend on Uprising Records in 2003. During this period Fall Out Boy built a following playing in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. The Knights of Columbus Hall was the site of many early Fall Out Boy shows. Their video for “Dead on Arrival” was filmed there, which also served as a site for several “secret shows”.

Drummer Andy Hurley, formerly of Racetraitor, joined the band soon after Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend was released. The same year, after signing to Fueled by Ramen, they released their second full-length album, Take This to Your Grave, on Fueled by Ramen, with singles such as “Grand Theft Autumn/Where is Your Boy” and “Saturday” receiving airplay on FUSE and mtvU. The album achieved Gold status, though only after the success of their next album. In 2003, the band signed with Island Records. They released the acoustic EP My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue on Fueled by Ramen, which included a DVD, in 2004.
