Throughout a long career, she has rewritten the rules as to what a rock ‘n’ roll singer can be. She’s been at the forefront of the folk rock and country rock genres which defined post-sixties rock music. A singer-songwriter and record producer, she is better known as a definitive interpreter of songs. After the critical and commercial success in the 1970s with chart-topping albums such as: Heart Like A Wheel, Simple Dreams, and Living In The USA, accompanied by mega-successful tours, Ronstadt became the leading female vocalist of the rock era. She has not stopped performing or making music. With estimated album sales in excess of 48 million in the USA and over 70 million albums worldwide, Ronstadt opened many doors for women in rock by being out in front. Ronstadt is one of the top female vocalists in U.S. history and part of the list of best-selling music artists.

Chris Isaak Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets, Concerts

I can only think of one song of Chris Isaak that I know, but I do know there are more then that. He is coming to the Celebrity Theater here in Phoenix to play the song that I do know and many more. Here is some info from his wiki:

Isaak’s music can be described as a blend of country, blues, rock and roll, pop and surf rock.

He signed a contract to Warner Bros. Records in 1984 for his first album Silvertone. Isaak’s contract was renewed in 1988 when Warner Bros. moved him to their Reprise Records label.

His best-known song is “Wicked Game.” Though released on the 1989 album Heart Shaped World, an instrumental version of the song was later featured in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart (and also years later in the 2000 film The Family Man). Lee Chesnut, an Atlanta radio station music director who was obsessed with David Lynch films, began playing the full version and it quickly became a nationwide top ten hit. The music video for the song was directed by Herb Ritts and was a big MTV and VH1 hit; shot in black and white, it starred Isaak and model Helena Christensen rolling on the beach, embracing and whispering in each others’ ears. Another less-seen version of the “Wicked Game” is directed by David Lynch and comprises scenes from the film Wild at Heart.

In 1999, Isaak’s “Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing” was featured in Stanley Kubrick’s final film, Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Isaak also composed a theme song for US late-night television variety/talk show, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn.

Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Chase Field (Bank One Ballpark), Sports

The Diamondbacks are facing the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field soon. If you want to see Arizona beat the pants off the Rockies, this is your chance. Here is some info from wiki:

After failed attempts going back as far as the 1880s, by the early 1990s a major league baseball team seemed a possibility in Denver. The Colorado Baseball Commission, led by banking executive Larry Varnell, was successful in getting Denver voters to approve a 0.1 percent sales tax to help finance a new baseball stadium. Also, an advisory committee was formed in 1990 by then-Governor of Colorado Roy Romer to recruit an ownership group. The group selected was led by John Antonucci, an Ohio beverage distributor, and Michael I. Monus, the head of the Phar-Mor drugstore chain. Local and regional companies such as Erie Lake, Hensel Phelps Construction, KOA Radio and the Rocky Mountain News rounded out the group. On July 5, 1991, the National League approved Denver and Miami, Florida as the sites for two expansion teams to begin play in 1993.

The Rockies joined the National League in 1993, along with the Miami franchise, the Florida Marlins. The Rockies’ first pick in the expansion draft was pitcher David Nied from the Atlanta Braves organization. Nied pitched 4 seasons for the Rockies. The team’s first home at-bat was a memorable one, as lead off batter Eric Young hit a home run for the Rockies.

Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Chase Field (Bank One Ballpark), Sports

The Chicago Cubs are coming to play the Diamondbacks at Chase Field (Bank One Ballpark). The Cubs are not that good so this series should be a breeze. Here is some info from wiki:

The Chicago Cubs are a Major League Baseball team that plays at Wrigley Field in the North Side Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The Cubs are part of the National League. They are one of two clubs in Chicago, the other being the Chicago White Sox of the American League. Both are charter franchises of their respective leagues.

The Cubs are affectionately referred to by the media and fans as “The Cubbies” and “The Lovable Losers”, the latter due to their almost century-long championship drought. They are also known as “The North Siders” in contrast to the White Sox, who play on the city’s South Side. The Cubs are one of the only two remaining charter members left in the National League, along with the Atlanta Braves, and the only team still in its original city.

Samuel Zell recently acquired the Tribune Company, the current owners of the Cubs. The company will sell the team after the 2007 Major League Baseball season. The Cubs are managed by Lou Piniella. The team’s president is John McDonough, and their general manager is Jim Hendry.

The Washington Nationals are coming to Phoenix to play the Diamondback. This is a three game series, so you have a few chances to see the games. All the action is at Chase Field. Here is some info from wiki:

The Washington Nationals (nicknamed The Nats) are a Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise based in Washington, D.C. Prior to the 2005 season, the current Nationals team played in Montreal as the Montreal Expos. The team’s relocation was the first in Major League Baseball since 1972, when the Washington Senators moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, becoming the Texas Rangers. The franchise became Washington’s first in the National League (both previous Nationals/Senators teams played in the American League) since 1899, and was owned by Major League Baseball from 2002 (in Montreal) until mid-2006. On May 3, 2006, a new ownership group was selected, headed by Theodore N. Lerner. The group formally took possession of the team on July 22, 2006. Former longtime Atlanta Braves sports executive Stan Kasten is President of the team.

The Nationals are a member of the National League’s Eastern Division, and they currently play at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, which 30+ years ago was the ballpark for the second Senators team. The team is expected to move into a new ballpark, located in Southeast D.C. near the Anacostia River and with views of the Capitol building, in the Spring of 2008 .

Pittsburgh Pirates at Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Chase Field (Bank One Ballpark), Sports

Rrrrr, the Pittsburgh Pirates are coming to play the Diamondbacks. Come out to Chase Field to see the game. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The original name of Pittsburgh’s National League franchise was the Pittsburgh Alleghenies. Some contend this is from the county in which Pittsburgh is the seat of government. Others say that it was named after the mountain range in the region. Others maintain that Allegheny, Pennsylvania, which became Pittsburgh’s northside after a 1907 annexation, was the tale behind the moniker. It is also one of the three major rivers in the city (the river of that name joins the Monongahela River to form the Ohio River). In the 1890s, the club was referred to as the Pittsburgh Innocents before the Pirates name stuck by the end of that decade.

When the renegade Players League dissolved after the 1890 season, most of the league’s player contracts were assigned to National League and American Association clubs, mostly to their previous clubs provided they had been “reserved” by their former teams’ owners. Highly-regarded second baseman Lou Bierbauer, who had previously played with the Philadelphia Athletics of the Association, was awarded to the Pittsburgh team on the grounds that the A’s had not reserved him. This led to loud complaints by the Athletics that the Pittsburgh club were “pirates”. This incident (which is discussed at some length in The Beer and Whisky League, by David Nemec, 1994) quickly accelerated into a schism between the leagues that contributed to the demise of the A.A. The colorful epithet stuck with the Pittsburghers, and eventually became the club’s official nickname. It was first acknowledged on the team’s jerseys in 1912, but even by the 1903 World Series, “Pirates” was in common usage. (Years later, the “Mr. Yuk” poison warning was developed due to the traditional skull-and-crossbones being associated with the Pirates baseball team.)

The Atlanta Braves are a Major League Baseball team, and have been based in Atlanta, Georgia since 1966. The team competes in the competitive Eastern Division of the National League. For the last decade and a half, the Braves have been one of the most successful franchises in baseball, winning their division title an unprecedented 14 consecutive times beginning with 1991 and ending in 2005 (omitting the strike-shortened 1994 season in which no division champions were officially crowned). The Braves have won 16 divisional titles, nine National League pennants, and three World Series championships: 1914 as the Boston Braves, 1957 as the Milwaukee Braves, and 1995 in Atlanta. The Braves are one of the only two remaining charter members left in the National League along with the Chicago Cubs.

Florida Marlins at Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Chase Field (Bank One Ballpark), Sports

The Marlins are a bunch of wet bloods. They will shrivel up out here in Phoenix. The Diamondbacks will have no problem winning at Chase Field. Here is some info from wiki:

The Florida Marlins (nicknamed “The Fish”) are a Major League Baseball team based in the Miami, Florida Metropolitan Area and play their home games in Dolphin Stadium, a stadium in the suburb of Miami Gardens. They are in the Eastern Division of the National League.

In only a decade since their inception into the majors, the Marlins have been highly fortunate in that they played in the era where “wild card” teams can win the World Series. The team has never finished first, yet won two World Series, in 1997 and in 2003. The Marlins had their best success under Jack McKeon, who led the Marlins to their only stretch of three consecutive winning seasons. Most of the time, however, the franchise has suffered from relatively low attendance. The Marlins management has insisted that a new baseball-only stadium with a retractable roof is imperative to survival in South Florida, and that if one would not be built, the team would seek relocation to another city. Although San Antonio, Texas, has pushed hard to receive the team, recent months have seen a new push for the Marlins to stay in South Florida, with the Miami suburb of Hialeah making strides in securing the stadium the team wants (see Possible relocation, below). The Marlins have also declined San Antonio’s deadline of May 15, 2006 to accept their stadium funding proposal, signaling that the team may indeed stay in South Florida. MLB President Bob DuPuy informed San Antonio in a letter that the offer would be declined at this time, but left open the possibility of relocation in the future, if talks in south Florida did not lead to a stadium deal.

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Chase Field (Bank One Ballpark), Sports

The San Diego sissies are coming to Chase Field to battle the Diamondbacks. The game will be over before the first pitch is thrown. Here is some info from wiki:

The Padres adopted their name from the Pacific Coast League team which arrived in San Diego in 1936. That minor league franchise won the PCL title in 1937, led by then-18-year-old San Diegan Ted Williams.

In 1969, the San Diego Padres joined the ranks of Major League Baseball as one of four new expansion teams, along with the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals), the Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Pilots (now the Milwaukee Brewers). Their original owner was C. Arnholt Smith, a prominent San Diego businessman and former owner of the PCL Padres whose interests included banking, tuna fishing, hotels, real estate and an airline. Despite initial excitement, the guidance of longtime baseball executive Buzzie Bavasi and a new playing field, the team struggled; the Padres finished in last place in each of its first six seasons in the NL West, losing 100 games or more four times. One of the few bright spots on the team during the early years was first baseman and slugger Nate Colbert, an expansion draftee from the Houston Astros and still (as of 2007) the Padres’ career leader in home runs.

Toby Keith Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Cricket Pavilion Tickets, Concerts

Lets get our country on because Toby Keith is coming to the Cricket Pavilion. If you live in Phoenix and love country you should not miss this show. Here is some info from his wiki:

Toby Keith Covel was born in Clinton, Oklahoma. His family moved to Moore, Oklahoma (a suburb of Oklahoma City) when Keith was young. His grandmother owned a supper club and Keith became interested in the musicians who came there to play. He got his first guitar at the age of eight. Keith attended Moore High School where he played on the football team.

Keith graduated from Moore High School and, in 1979, went to work as a derrick hand in the booming oil fields of Oklahoma. He worked his way up to become an operation manager. At the age of 20, he formed the Easy Money band and they played local bars as he continued to work in the oil industry. At times, he would have to leave in the middle of a gig if he was paged to work in the oil field.

In 1982, the oil industry in Oklahoma began a rapid decline and Keith soon found himself unemployed. He fell back on his football training and played defensive end with the semi-pro Oklahoma City Drillers while continuing to perform with his band. (The Drillers were an unofficial farm club of the USFL’s Oklahoma Outlaws; Keith tried out for the Outlaws but did not make the team.) After two years with the Drillers, Keith decided to try music full time. His family and friends were doubtful he would succeed, but in 1984, Easy Money began playing the honky tonk circuit in Oklahoma and Texas. The band cut a single titled Blue Moon and the song received some airplay on local radio stations in Oklahoma.

Heart Concert Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets, Concerts

One of the big names from the 80’s, Heart is coming to town. They are performing at the Celebrity Theater soon so get your tickets. Here is some info from their wiki:

The Wilson sisters grew up in Southern California and Taiwan before their Marine Corps father retired to the Seattle suburbs. After attending college they returned to Seattle, with Nancy working as a folksinger and Ann joining a hitherto-all-male local group in 1970. (This group was formed in 1963 by Steve Fossen and Roger and Mike Fisher as the Army. They later changed their name to White Heart, shortened to Heart in 1974.) Upon joining, Ann became Mike Fisher’s girlfriend, and when Nancy joined in 1974, she became involved with Fisher’s brother, lead guitarist Roger.

The band moved to Canada. After many one-nighters around their new home of Vancouver, they attracted the attention of Mushroom Records in 1975, a Vancouver-based label run by Shelly Siegel. He had them cut Dreamboat Annie, which upon release in Canada sold 30,000 copies, no doubt benefitting from CRTC Canadian content regulations. In the US Siegel released the album first in Seattle, where it quickly sold another 25,000. With two hit singles - “Crazy on You” (#35, 1976) and “Magic Man” (#9, 1976), - Dreamboat Annie eventually sold over a million copies.
