Sammy Hagar with Cheap Trick Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: US Airways Center Tickets, Concerts

Sammy Hagar and Cheap Trick is a group combo I never thought I would see. Life is complete for all of us now. They are singing at the US Airways Center. Here is some info from wiki:

In 2005, Hagar continued to play with The Waboritas as he toured the Atlantic coast and the Midwest and added ex-Van Halen bass player Michael Anthony, calling the band Los Tres Gusanos. In August of that year, Hagar went on another mini-tour starting at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan and then hitting the southwest before finishing at his own Tahoe Wabo Cantina. Hagar’s 2006 tour with The Waboritas also included a segment with Michael Anthony playing as a band called The Other Half (a reference to Sammy and Michael being the 1/2 of Van Halen no longer playing with the band) for a set of songs in the middle of the show, including both Hagar- and Roth-era tunes. The band also invited Kid Rock on stage at DTE Energy Theatre for a couple of songs, including covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” and The Beastie Boys’ “You Gotta Fight For Your Right (To Party)”. Hagar also released an album called “Livin’ It Up” with the Wabos on July 25, 2006.

Sammy is currently developing a side project called “Chickenfoot” with Michael Anthony and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. A major tour, (again including Michael Anthony) and the Wabos has been announced for the fall of 2007 as well. Hagar also released a new single entitled “Open” via digital providers.

Mana Concert Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: US Airways Center Tickets, Concerts

The picture is saying, “I am a crazy lady, and I like to sing…will you be my friend?” No, I will not be your friend but you can sing. Mana is singing at the US Airways Center. Here is some info from wiki:

Mana was born on March 19 in Hiroshima; while many unsubstantiated rumors proliferate, his real name and year of birth are unknown. At an early age, Mana was introduced to classical music by his parents, who were both music teachers; classical music has remained an influence ever since. Mana has said that he started making music when he was in high school, at which time he listened to Mötley Crüe and had a mohawk.Typically, Mana’s compositions blend classical music (especially baroque music, featuring pipe organ and harpsichord) with heavy metal music, gothic rock, industrial music and other more unlikely elements such as French pop music. In a recent interview Mana revealed that he has no formal training in music theory.

The album spawned the UK number-one singles “Déjà Vu” and “Beautiful Liar”, as well as the worldwide number-one hit “Irreplaceable”. It also earned Knowles her seventh solo Grammy Award (she has won ten in total).

Knowles has contributed to the soundtracks to films in which she has starred, including Dreamgirls (2006), for which she received two Golden Globe Award nominations, one for acting and another for the soul hit “Listen”.

Hootie and The Blowfish Tickets in Phoenix

I haven’t heard anything about Hootie and the Blowfish since the 90’s. They are playing at Jobing.com Arena soon. Here is some info from there wiki:

Hootie & the Blowfish formed in 1989, and independently released two cassette demo EPs. In 1993, they pressed 50,000 copies of a self-released EP, Kootchypop, which was named after a reference to female genitalia in a stand-up comedy act by What’s Happening co-star Shirley Hemphill. Their mainstream debut album was Cracked Rear View (1994) and it was an instant success, ultimately going platinum 16 times in the U.S. and becoming the best-selling album of 1995. The album was propelled by four hits, “Hold My Hand”, “Let Her Cry”, “Only Wanna Be With You”, and “Time”. In 1995, Hootie and the Blowfish and Bob Dylan reached an out-of-court settlement for the group’s unauthorized use of Dylan’s lyrics in their song “Only Wanna Be With You.” Miami Dolphins’ Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino appeared in the band’s video for the song “Only Wanna Be With You”, along with several other athletes.

In 1995, Hootie & the Blowfish contributed the song “Hey Hey What Can I Do” to the Encomium tribute album to Led Zeppelin. Also, their cover of Canadian group 54-40’s “I Go Blind”, originally released on the soundtrack to the TV series Friends in 1995, did not appear on Cracked Rear View or Fairweather Johnson, but nevertheless became a surprise hit at radio in 1997 after three singles from Fairweather Johnson had been released. Both “Hey Hey What Can I Do” and “I Go Blind” were later released on the collection Scattered, Smothered and Covered.

Smashing Pumpkins Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Dodge Theatre, Concerts

I haven’t seen these guys in concert ever, but it is interesting to see them back together. They were one of the biggest bands in the 90’s. Come and see the Smashing Pumpkins at the Dodge Theater. Here is some info from there wiki:

The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band that formed in Chicago in 1988. While the group has gone through several lineup changes, The Smashing Pumpkins consisted of Billy Corgan (vocals/guitar), James Iha (guitar/vocals), D’arcy Wretzky (bass/vocals), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums/percussion) for most of the band’s recording career.

Disavowing the punk rock roots shared by many of their alt-rock contemporaries, the Pumpkins have a diverse, densely layered, and guitar-heavy sound, containing elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, dream pop, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, shoegazer-style production and, in later recordings, electronica. Frontman Billy Corgan is the group’s primary songwriter—his grand musical ambitions and cathartic lyrics have shaped the band’s albums and songs, which have been described as “anguished, bruised reports from Billy Corgan’s nightmare-land.”

The Smashing Pumpkins broke into the musical mainstream with their second album, 1993’s Siamese Dream. The group built their audience with extensive touring and their follow-up, 1995’s double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. With approximately 18.3 million albums sold in the United States alone as of 2006, The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of the 1990s. However, internal fighting, drug use, and diminishing sales hampered the band and led to a 2000 break-up. In April 2006, the band officially announced that they were reuniting and recording a new album. Returning members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin were joined by new additions Jeff Schroeder (guitar/vocals) and Ginger Reyes (bass/vocals) in 2007 to tour behind their new release, Zeitgeist.

Asia Concert Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Dodge Theatre, Concerts

I don’t know anything about Asia the band, but I do know that members of the greatest rock band (Yes) are members. Asia is preforming at the Dodge Theater so get your tickets and come. Here is some info from there wiki:

Asia began with the apparent demise of Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, two of the flagship bands of British progressive rock. After the break-up of King Crimson in 1974, various plans for a supergroup involving bassist John Wetton had been mooted, including the abortive British Bulldog project with Bill Bruford and Rick Wakeman in 1976. In 1977, Bruford and Wetton were reunited in UK, along with guitarist Allan Holdsworth and keyboardist/violinist Eddie Jobson. Their eponymous debut was released in 1978. By 1980, after UK’s demise and Wetton’s departure from UK, a new supergroup project was suggested involving Wetton, Wakeman, drummer Carl Palmer and (then little known) guitarist Trevor Rabin, but Wakeman walked out of the project shortly before they were due to sign to Geffen and before they had ever played together. In 1981, Wetton and Yes guitarist Steve Howe were brought together by A&R man John Kalodner and Geffen Records to start working and writing, Howe having come out of the break-up of Yes in early 1981. Howe and Wetton were soon joined by Buggles/Yes keyboardist Geoff Downes. Carl Palmer joined the band later in the process. Trevor Rabin was considered for the group and some demos were recorded with him, but he dropped out to accept an offer to join Yes bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White in what became a new Yes and the other Asia members decided to stay as a quartet. Trevor Rabin, in a filmed interview from 1984 and included in the recently released and updated DVD 9012Live, said that his involvement with Asia never went anywhere because “there was no chemistry” among the participants.

The band’s early offerings, under the auspices of Geffen record label head David Geffen and Kalodner, were considered disappointing by music critics and fans of traditional progressive rock, who found the music closer to radio-friendly AOR pop-rock. However, Asia clicked with fans of arena acts such as Journey, Boston, and Electric Light Orchestra. Rolling Stone gave Asia an indifferent review , while still acknowledging the band’s musicianship was a cut above the usual AOR expectations.

Kenny Loggins Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets, Concerts

If you don’t know the Danger Zone song from Top Gun, you are not worthy to see Kenny. I you know the song get your tickets now because you qualify to see him. See him at the Celebrity Theater. Here is some info from his wiki:

Loggins was born in Everett, Washington and raised in Alhambra, California. The early 70s found him in the band “Gator Creek” with Mike Deasy. An early version of “Danny’s Song” (later recorded by Loggins and Messina) was included on this effort on Mercury Records. Two covers are featured as well, Jackson Browne’s “These Days” and “Don’t Try to Lay no Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll” which was made famous by Long John Baldry.

Loggins continued his career in the 1970s. After attracting the attention of fellow singer-songwriter Jim Messina, the two began a duo career as Loggins and Messina. It lasted until 1976. In 1977, Loggins went on to produce his first solo album, Celebrate Me Home, which included the hit “I Believe In Love”. Nightwatch, a popular album released in 1978, included the hit “Whenever I Call You Friend”, a duet with Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. He followed this in 1979 with Keep the Fire, whose “This Is It” would be sampled by hip hop rapper Papoose for his 2005 track Cherrades.

Loggins also wrote the song “What a Fool Believes” with Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. Furthermore, he penned “Danny’s Song” and “A Love Song” for Anne Murray in the early 70’s.

Blue October Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets, Concerts

I hear Blue October playing on my Yahoo player and I love it. They are coming to the Celebrity Theater soon so get your tickets. Here is some info from there wiki:

Blue October was formed in Houston Texas by lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld, his brother, Jeremy, multi-instrumentalist Ryan Delahoussaye, later joined by guitarist/vocalist C.B. Hudson and bassist Matt Noveskey. The name reportedly was inspired by Justin’s brief stint in a hospital in October. Managed by Justin and Jeremy’s parents under the name “RoDan Entertainment”, Blue October released their first album, The Answers, in 1998, a well-received debut which sold over 5,000 copies in Houston alone.[2] Due to a fan-based connection with the local ABC network television affiliate, Blue October was able to schedule an early-morning news performance — the band’s first live television performance.

Blue October caught the attention of the major record labels, and in 1999 was signed to Universal Records for the release of their second album Consent to Treatment. For a variety of reasons, the band was dropped by Universal Records in 2002. Ironically, the band’s third album History for Sale — re-released on Universal, due to larger than expected album sales with label Brando Records — is largely a response to the control the label placed on the group during the Consent to Treatment production process.[3]

Blue October received a larger audience as their single “Calling You”, featured on the American Wedding movie soundtrack, began to get radio play in Dallas, TX. The band was invited to play at a large radio produced annual concert known as Edgefest. Later hits off of History for Sale included “Inner Glow” and “Razorblade”. However, “Calling You” remained the group’s largest mainstream success until their 2006 single “Hate Me”, which peaked at number two on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart. The music video for “Hate Me” debuted on VH1, later making a splash at number thirteen on VH1’s user-controlled video countdown show VSpot Top 20 Countdown; it eventually peaked at number twelve for the week ending on May 5, 2006.

Doobie Brothers Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets, Concerts

I must have been living in a cave when I grew up because I can’t think of any Doobie Brothers songs. Just because I don’t know of any of their songs doesn’t mean you don’t. Go see them at the Celebrity Theater when they come to Phoenix. Here is some info from their wiki:

In 1969, singer, guitarist and songwriter Tom Johnston and drummer John Hartman formed the nucleus of what would become The Doobie Brothers. Skip Spence of Moby Grape (formerly of Jefferson Airplane) introduced them to one another after Hartman arrived in California determined to meet Spence and join an aborted Grape reunion. New bandmates Johnston and Hartman called their fledgling group Pud and experimented with different lineups and styles as they performed in and around San Jose. They were briefly a power trio, and briefly worked with a horn section. In 1970, they teamed up with bass player Dave Shogren and singer, guitarist and songwriter Patrick Simmons. Simmons, who had belonged to several area groups and also performed as a solo artist, was already an accomplished fingerstyle player whose approach to the instrument complemented Johnston’s rhythmic R&B strumming. In a recent interview, Tom Johnston attributed the band’s eventual name to friend and housemate Keith “Dyno” Rosen, who considered it an improvement over Pud.

The Doobie Brothers honed their chops by performing live all over northern California in 1970 . They attracted a particularly strong following among local chapters of the Hells Angels and scored a recurring gig at one of the bikers’ favorite venues, the rustic Chateau Liberte in the Santa Cruz Mountains. An energetic set of demos (some of which were briefly released on Pickwick Records in 1980 under the title Introducing the Doobie Brothers), showcased fuzz-toned, dual lead electric guitars, three-part harmonies and Hartman’s frenetic drumming and earned the rock group a contract at Warner Bros. Records.

Michael McDonald Concert in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets, Concerts

Michael McDonald is known for his bright blue eyes and his husky tenor voice. He is coming for one night to the Celebrity Theater. Here is some info from her wiki:

McDonald played in several local bands (such as Mike and the Majestics, Jerry Jay and the Sheratons, the Reebtoors, and The Guild) while attending McCluer High School in his hometown of Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.

He was ‘discovered’ while playing with a group called Blue and consequently moved to Los Angeles in 1970. He first gained wide attention as an adjunct member of the group Steely Dan, providing back-up vocals on tracks for 1975’s Katy Lied. He would return on subsequent albums including 1976’s The Royal Scam and have his unique phrasing in “Peg” on the 1977 album Aja. His talent on the keyboards was also showcased during this time. Michael continued to do background vocals for Steely Dan up to their 1980 Gaucho release.

McDonald was recruited by The Doobie Brothers in April 1975 when lead singer Tommy Johnston became ill during a national tour. As a member of the Doobies, he recorded some of his most memorable songs, such as “Takin’ It To The Streets”, “Little Darling”, “It Keeps You Runnin’” (used in the movie Forrest Gump), “Minute by Minute” and “What a Fool Believes” (which became a number one single in the U.S. and earned him a 1980 Grammy Award for Song of the Year).
