Mars Volta Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Dodge Theatre, Concerts

Out of Long Beach, Mars Volta is coming at you. If you look at their picture on wikipedia you might get as scared like I did. If you know who they are and want to see them, get out to the Dodge theater in Phoenix. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The roots of The Mars Volta are found in the side project of At the Drive-In members Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez known as De Facto; which also included Jeremy Michael Ward: audio technician, close friend, and cousin of At the Drive-In member Jim Ward. De Facto featured Bixler-Zavala on drums, Rodriguez-Lopez on bass, and Ward with various loop, vocal, sound, and distortion effects – a composite of sounds, hanging squarely on tripped-out, instrumental dub. Though De Facto started as a local band with a rock feel, they were rooted in the realm of dub reggae pioneers such as Lee Perry and Dr. Alimantado. The group also dabbled in electronica, Latin, salsa, and jazz which provided them with a distinct sound. The band played local shows around their home town, El Paso, Texas, and released their first album How Do You Dub? You Fight for Dub, You Plug Dub In.

Alicia Keys is a very talented person and a great songwriter. She is making her way to Phoenix for one show at the Dodge theater. She may even sing her hit song “No one”. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Keys was born in the Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem, in New York City, New York, the daughter and only child of Teresa “Terria” Augello, a paralegal and part-time actress, and Craig Cook, a flight attendant. Keys’ mother is of Irish and Italian descent, and her father is Jamaican. Keys describes herself as comfortable with her biracial heritage : “I grew up in New York, and thank God, I never had to go through that in regards to, ‘You’re not black enough, you’re not white enough,’ the whole kind of white/black-mixture thing. I never had to go through that. I went through prejudices and all, surely. But I never had to battle with those two parts of me.”

Keys’ parents separated during her early childhood, and she was subsequently raised by her mother during her formative years in Hell’s Kitchen, also in Manhattan. In 1985, Keys and a group of other girls played the parts of Rudy Huxtable’s sleepover guests in an episode of The Cosby Show called “Slumber Party”. She began playing the piano when she was seven, learning classical music by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and her favorite, Chopin. Keys almost chose Wilde as her stage name at age sixteen until her manager suggested the name Keys after a dream he had. Keys felt that name represented her both as a performer and person.

With his pop art collage of musical styles, oblique and ironic lyrics, and postmodern arrangements incorporating samples, drum machines, live instrumentation and sound effects, Beck has been hailed by critics and the public throughout his musical career as being amongst the most idiosyncratic artists of 1990s and 2000s alternative rock.

He rose to underground popularity with his early works, which combined social criticism (as in “MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack” and “Deep Fried Love”) with musical and lyrical experimentation. He first earned wider public attention for his breakthrough single “Loser,” a 1994 hit.

Jim Gaffigan is one of the funnest comedians that I have ever seen. I watched one of his Comedy Central specials about two years ago and died laughing. He is coming to the Dodge Theater soon. Here is some info from wikipedia:

James Christopher Gaffigan (born July 7, 1966) is an American stand-up comic and an actor. His performances are also known to commonly include his “dumb-idea guy” gags, during which he does a stereotypical redneck voice, declaring “Hey, I got an idea. How about…?”, and going on to expand on the idea. For example, when talking about Hot Pockets, “Hey, I got an idea. How about we fill a pop tart with nasty meat.” Gaffigan is also known for various routines relating to being lazy and eating food, especially famous bits regarding Hot Pockets and bacon.

Gaffigan was born in Chesterton, Indiana. He is married and a practicing Catholic.
