Joe Satriani Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Concerts, Dodge Theatre

Joe Satriani is a guitarist and has played with some of the largest artists in the business. He is coming to perform at the Dodge Theater here in Phoenix. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Satriani’s work frequently makes references to various science fiction stories and/or ideas. “Surfing with the Alien”, “Back to Shalla-Bal” and “The Power Cosmic 2000″ refer to the comic book character Silver Surfer, while “Ice 9″ refers to the secret government ice weapon in Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle. “Borg Sex” is a reference to Star Trek, which features a homogeneous cybernetic race known as the Borg. Additionally, his albums and songs often have other-worldly titles, such as Not of this Earth, Crystal Planet, Is There Love in Space?, and Engines of Creation.

On the album Super Colossal the song titled “Crowd Chant” was originally called “Party on the Enterprise”. “Party on the Enterprise” featured sampled sounds from the Starship Enterprise from the Star Trek TV show. But as Satriani explained in a podcast, legal issues regarding the samples could not be resolved and he was unable to get permission to use them. Satriani then removed the sounds from the song and called it “Crowd Chant.” This song is also used as the Minnesota Wild’s goal horn.

“Redshift Riders”, another song on the Super Colossal album, is “…based on the idea that in the future, when people can travel throughout space, they will theoretically take advantage of the cosmological redshift effect so they can be swung around large planetary objects and get across [the] universe a lot faster than normal,” Satriani said in a podcast about the song.

NBA All-Star Saturday Night Tickets featuring the Slam Dunk Contest in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Sports, US Airways Center Tickets

One of my favorite Slam Dunk years was back when Vince Carter won. This is a fun contest and only happens once a year. Come out for the fun here in Phoenix at the US Airway Center. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The Slam Dunk Contest is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) competition held during the NBA All-Star Weekend. The contest was inaugurated by the American Basketball Association (ABA) at its All-Star Game in 1976 in Denver, just as the slam dunk was legalized in the NCAA. It enabled players to showcase their dunking skills and try to “out-dunk” each other. However, this contest would be short-lived as the ABA merged the following year with the NBA. Realizing the popularity of slam dunks, the NBA soon created a contest of its own, which made its first appearance in 1984. The contest currently uses fan voting, via text-messaging, to determine the winner.

The very first slam dunk contest was won by Julius Erving at the 1976 ABA All-Star Game. The current champion of the NBA Dunk Contest is Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic.

NBA All-Star Game Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Sports, US Airways Center Tickets

I would love to go to the NBA all-star game. That would be very fun. The game is coming to Phoenix and it will be held at the US Airway Center. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The National Basketball Association staged its first All-Star Game in the Boston Garden on March 2, 1951. From that year on, the game has matched the best players in the Eastern Conference with the best players in the Western Conference. The participants are currently chosen in two ways. The first is via fan ballot, with the leading vote recipients at each position starting the game; secondly the reserves are chosen by a vote among the head coaches of each squad’s particular conference. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players. If a player is injured and cannot participate, the commissioner will select a replacement.

AC DC Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Concerts, US Airways Center Tickets

On of the oldest and most rocking bands is coming your way. AC DC is coming to the US Airway soon for a show. Come to Phoenix for the action. Here is some info from wikipedia:

AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership remained stable until bassist Cliff Williams replaced Mark Evans in 1977. In 1979, the band recorded their highly successful album Highway to Hell. Lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected as Scott’s replacement. Later that year, the band released their best selling album, Back in Black.

The band’s next album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, was also highly successful and was their first album to reach number one in the United States. AC/DC declined in popularity soon after the departure of drummer Phil Rudd in 1983. Poor record sales continued until the release of The Razors Edge in 1990. Phil Rudd returned in 1994 and contributed to the band’s 1995 album Ballbreaker. Stiff Upper Lip was released in 2000 and was well-received by critics. The band’s new album Black Ice was announced in June 2008 and is set for release on 20 October 2008

Daniel Tosh Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: About, Celebrity Theatre (Theater) Tickets

I can’t say I know who Daniel Tosh is. He is coming to Phoenix for a comedy show. The show is at the Celebrity theater. Here is some info from wiki:

Tosh’s first big career break came in 2001 with his performance on the Late Show with David Letterman. His first attempt to appear on the show was cut short, though, due to time constraints caused by the star guest, Eric Kraff, overextending his segment. He followed with appearances on programs such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. In 2002, he performed in his own thirty-minute special on Comedy Central Presents. On June 17, 2007, Comedy Central aired a new stand-up special featuring Tosh, Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious
