The famous USC is coming to Arizona to play our home state team. Come to the Wells Fargo Arena here in Phoenix for the fun. Here is some info from wiki:

During the 2007-2008 season, the Trojans played the Kansas Jayhawks and the Oklahoma Sooners at home. They also played in the Anaheim Classic from November 22-25, 2007. Each night, USC played a team from the Big Ten, Big East, SEC, and Big 12. Additionally, they had a return game against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, SC. Furthermore, the Trojans played in a neutral floor game against the Memphis Tigers at the Jimmy Valvano Classic in New York City. After the regualar season and Pac-10 Tournament had ended, USC earned a #6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Trojans were seeded against the #11 seed Kansas State Wildcats. This first round game gained heavy media attention because of the matchup between college phenoms O.J. Mayo and Michael Beasley. Although the game was relatively close throughout the first half and early second half, the Wildcats came away with the victory by a score of 80-67. As expected by many, Mayo entered the NBA Draft at the end of the 2007-08 season. He was selected as the 3rd overall lottery pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Trojans finished the 2007-08 season with a record of 21-12.

The Vikings won the first three GNAC All-Sports Championships and placed 31st among 225 NCAA II schools in U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup standings in 2003-04. In January 2004, the women’s basketball team became the 15th NCAA school to win 700 games. A total of 59 Vikings earned league all-star honors and 34 were GNAC academic all-stars in 2003-04. In the 2006 and 2007 seasons, the Vikings are participating in football as a member the North Central Conference, as the GNAC discontinued the sport following the 2005 season. However, with the demise of the NCC on July 1, 2008, the GNAC is re-starting its football program in 2008 and the Vikings will join its five-team football division.

The crazy Washington State is coming to play at the Wells Fargo Arena. Come to Phoenix and support your Arizona State basketball team. Here is some info from wiki:

In 2007, following a win against then No. 7 Arizona, the Cougars appeared in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time since 1983. Picked to finish last in the Pac-10 in a pre-season media poll, the Cougars surprised everyone by finishing second in the conference and peaking with a No. 9 ranking. The Cougars earned a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and beat Oral Roberts 70-54 in the first round. The Cougars then lost to Vanderbilt in the second round 78-74 in double overtime. Their final record was 13-5 in the Pac-10 and 26-8 overall, which tied the school record for most wins in a season. During the 2006-07 season, the Cougars swept rival Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, USC, Oregon State, and California. In the tournament, the coaching staff wore a pin saying TAY, which stood for Turn-Around Year. After the season, Coach Tony Bennett received the Naismith Coach of the Year award, the highest honor for a college basketball coach.

Carson Hall, located near the Erb Memorial Union, provides dining services and a mail room along with dormitories. Just south is the Living-Learning Center, opened in 2006. Soweto Gospel Choir is a South African gospel group.

The group was formed in Soweto, South Africa by David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer, two choir directors. The 30+ member ensemble blends elements of African gospel, Negro spirituals, reggae, and American popular music. The group performed at the first of the 46664 concerts for Nelson Mandela, and has since toured internationally several times.

Their albums Blessed and African Spirit won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

I have never heard of the NBA All-Star Rookie Challenge until now. The event is happening soon so come out to the US Airway Center for the game here in Phoenix. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The Rookie Challenge is a competition held during the NBA All-Star Weekend on the day prior to the regular All-Star game. From 1994 until 1998, the event was called the “Rookie Game,” and composed entirely of first-year players. Since the year 2000, the game has featured a team of standout first-year players against a team of the leading players who are in their second season of NBA experience. The format change was largely due to the cancellation of the event, with the rest of All-Star Weekend, in 1999 due to the lockout that season. In past years the NBA experimented with several other formats. This included an Eastern Conference rookies versus Western Conference rookies format, and arbitrarily assigning rookies to teams. Unlike regular NBA games, the game is divided into two twenty-minute halves, similar to college basketball. Like the 1997-2002 NBA All Star Games, players are allowed to wear their respective team uniforms: the sophomores wear their respective home jerseys and the rookies wear their respective away jerseys. The event is currently sponsored by T-Mobile. In the most recent game, the sophomore team won by a score of 136-109 and Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers put on a show. He had a game-record 11 three pointers and 33 points to take home MVP honors.
