As a result, some consider Sonic Youth as pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock movement.

Nightwish Concert Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Concerts, Marquee Theater Tickets

Who doesn’t like Finnish symphonic power metal bands. Nightwish is coming to Phoenix to play at the Marquee Theater soon. Here is some info from wiki:

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal musical group, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, in eastern Finland. Nightwish is considered one of the bands responsible for the development and rise in popularity of symphonic metal at the end of the 1990s[1], and the creation of the symphonic power metal genre, basically symphonic metal with parts of power metal even though a female lead singer is used (male singer being typical for power metal).

Although the band has been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, “The Carpenter” (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively. Their 2004 album, Once, led to Nightwish video clips being shown on MTV in the United States and inclusion of their music in U.S. movie soundtracks. Their biggest U.S. hit single, “Wish I Had an Angel” (2004), made it onto two U.S. film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour. The band produced three more singles and two music videos for the album, as well as “Sleeping Sun”, from the 2005 “best of” compilation album, Highest Hopes, prior to vocalist Tarja Turunen’s dismissal.

The extensive search for Turunen’s replacement, during the course of which anyone could have been considered by submitting a demo, ended in mid 2007. The former Alyson Avenue frontwoman Anette Olzon was revealed to be the new singer on May 24. The band declared the upcoming release of new album, “Dark Passion Play”, which features the charity single “Eva” , the newly released single “Amaranth”, and the unreleased third single “Bye Bye Beautiful” will be released on September 28

Paolo Nutini Tickets

By: Spencinator    Category: Concerts, Marquee Theater Tickets

I will not pretend, I have no idea who this guy is. Paolo Nutini is famous enough to have wikipedia talk about him. Look below for more info in him. He is coming to the Marquee Theater here in Phoenix. Here is some info from wiki:

Nutini, who has no formal musical training, was expecting to follow his father into the family fish and chip shop business. He was first encouraged to sing by his music-loving grandfather Jackie and a teacher at his school who recognised his talent. He left school to work as a roadie and to sell t-shirts for Speedway and spent three years learning the music business, performing live, alone and with a band, and working as a studio hand at Glasgow’s Park Lane Studio.

His big chance came when he attended a concert for David Sneddon’s return to his home town of Paisley at the beginning of 2003. Sneddon was delayed, and as the winner of an impromptu pop quiz, Nutini was given the chance to perform a couple of songs on stage during the wait. The favourable reaction of the crowd impressed another member of the audience, who offered to become his manager.

Renowned Daily Record journalist, John Dingwall, saw him performing at the Queen Margaret Union, and invited him to appear live on BBC Radio Scotland. Only 17, he moved to London, and performed regularly at The Bedford pub in Balham while still legally too young to drink alcohol himself. Other radio and live appearances followed, including two live acoustic spots on Radio London, The Hard Rock Cafe, and support slots for Amy Winehouse and KT Tunstall.

Dashboard Confessional Tickets in Phoenix

By: Spencinator    Category: Concerts, Marquee Theater Tickets

Dashboard Confessional is a little whiney for my liking, but they have good songs. They are coming to the Marquee Theater here in Phoenix so get your tickets. Here is some info from wiki:

Dashboard Confessional was started in 1999, as a side project from Chris Carrabba’s venture with Florida rock band Further Seems Forever. The name Dashboard Confessional is derived from one of his songs, “The Sharp Hint of New Tears,” which contains the line “On the way home/This car hears my confessions.” Contrary to popular belief, the name Dashboard Confessional refers only to Carrabba, as he originally intended it to be only a solo project. Addressing this misunderstanding, he challenged: “What rulebook says it has to be called your name if you’re one guy?” But Carrabba often brought along friends to play live shows with him and in 2002 he decided to make the current line-up a permanent one. Jolie Lindholm, formerly of The Rocking Horse Winner, also provided background vocals on Chris’ debut album The Swiss Army Romance.

The current line-up includes Carrabba (vocals, guitar), John Lefler (guitar), Scott Schoenbeck (bass) (formerly in The Promise Ring), and Mike Marsh (drums). Both John Lefler and Mike Marsh provide background vocals. Chris’ friend and guitarist John Ralston and violinist Susan Sherouse often perform and record with the group. As of 2006, they have released four EPs and five full-length albums, three of which have been certified gold by the RIAA.
