If you were a fan of Sublime in the 90s the you will like Badfish. They are coming to Phoenix to play at the Marquee Theater. Here is some info from wiki:

Badfish is a tribute band dedicated to playing the music of Sublime. The group is named after a song appearing on the album 40 Oz. to Freedom. Formed in 2001 at the University of Rhode Island, the group’s members, who were computer science majors, began playing local Rhode Island clubs and quickly began selling out shows. They continued touring the East Coast and Midwest of the U.S., becoming popular on college campuses among Sublime fans who never were able to see the band due to Bradley Nowell’s 1996 death. Since then the group has done multiple national tours per year. In 2008, the band was nominated for Best Tribute Act in the Boston Music Awards.

The group played 152 shows across the United States in 2006, selling just under 100,000 tickets and grossing $1.4 million in sales. Members of the group also play in a non-tribute act called Scotty Don’t, which sometimes acts as the opener at Badfish shows. The band played at the Hoodwink festival in New Jersey in 2009.

In their early career, Sonic Youth was associated with the No Wave art and music scene in New York City. Part of the first wave of American noise rock groups, the band carried out their interpretation of the hardcore punk ethos throughout the evolving American underground that focused more on the DIY ethic of the genre rather than its specific sound. As a result, some consider Sonic Youth as pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock movement.

My Morning Jacket is coming to Phoenix. For one night they are playing at the Marquee theater. Come out to the show if you want to rock out. Here is some info from wikipedia:

My Morning Jacket is an American rock band known for their reverb-heavy sound, their eclectic mix of indie rock, country rock, funk, psychedelic, and jam band styles, and enthusiastic and energetic live shows. Formed in 1998 in Louisville, Kentucky, the band signed with ATO Records four years later.

The band’s moniker comes from a discarded coat lead singer Jim James found while sifting through the remains of his favorite bar after it burned down. The coat was embroidered with the letters “MMJ”.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist James’ bandmates are bassist “Two Tone Tommy” Blankenship , drummer Patrick Hallahan, guitarist/pedal steel guitarist/saxophonist/vocalist Carl Broemel and keyboardist Bo Koster.

The band is also known for being featured (under the name Ruckus) in the 2005 film Elizabethtown.

Nightwish is coming to Phoenix to play at the Marquee Theater soon. Here is some info from wiki:

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal musical group, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, in eastern Finland. Nightwish is considered one of the bands responsible for the development and rise in popularity of symphonic metal at the end of the 1990s[1], and the creation of the symphonic power metal genre, basically symphonic metal with parts of power metal even though a female lead singer is used (male singer being typical for power metal).

Although the band has been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, “The Carpenter” (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively. Their 2004 album, Once, led to Nightwish video clips being shown on MTV in the United States and inclusion of their music in U.S. movie soundtracks. Their biggest U.S. hit single, “Wish I Had an Angel” (2004), made it onto two U.S. film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour. The band produced three more singles and two music videos for the album, as well as “Sleeping Sun”, from the 2005 “best of” compilation album, Highest Hopes, prior to vocalist Tarja Turunen’s dismissal.

The extensive search for Turunen’s replacement, during the course of which anyone could have been considered by submitting a demo, ended in mid 2007. The former Alyson Avenue frontwoman Anette Olzon was revealed to be the new singer on May 24. The band declared the upcoming release of new album, “Dark Passion Play”, which features the charity single “Eva” , the newly released single “Amaranth”, and the unreleased third single “Bye Bye Beautiful” will be released on September 28

Paolo Nutini is famous enough to have wikipedia talk about him. Look below for more info in him. He is coming to the Marquee Theater here in Phoenix. Here is some info from wiki:

Nutini, who has no formal musical training, was expecting to follow his father into the family fish and chip shop business. He was first encouraged to sing by his music-loving grandfather Jackie and a teacher at his school who recognised his talent. He left school to work as a roadie and to sell t-shirts for Speedway and spent three years learning the music business, performing live, alone and with a band, and working as a studio hand at Glasgow’s Park Lane Studio.

His big chance came when he attended a concert for David Sneddon’s return to his home town of Paisley at the beginning of 2003. Sneddon was delayed, and as the winner of an impromptu pop quiz, Nutini was given the chance to perform a couple of songs on stage during the wait. The favourable reaction of the crowd impressed another member of the audience, who offered to become his manager.

Renowned Daily Record journalist, John Dingwall, saw him performing at the Queen Margaret Union, and invited him to appear live on BBC Radio Scotland. Only 17, he moved to London, and performed regularly at The Bedford pub in Balham while still legally too young to drink alcohol himself. Other radio and live appearances followed, including two live acoustic spots on Radio London, The Hard Rock Cafe, and support slots for Amy Winehouse and KT Tunstall.

They are coming to the Marquee Theater here in Phoenix so get your tickets. Here is some info from wiki:

Dashboard Confessional was started in 1999, as a side project from Chris Carrabba’s venture with Florida rock band Further Seems Forever. The name Dashboard Confessional is derived from one of his songs, “The Sharp Hint of New Tears,” which contains the line “On the way home/This car hears my confessions.” Contrary to popular belief, the name Dashboard Confessional refers only to Carrabba, as he originally intended it to be only a solo project. Addressing this misunderstanding, he challenged: “What rulebook says it has to be called your name if you’re one guy?” But Carrabba often brought along friends to play live shows with him and in 2002 he decided to make the current line-up a permanent one. Jolie Lindholm, formerly of The Rocking Horse Winner, also provided background vocals on Chris’ debut album The Swiss Army Romance.

The current line-up includes Carrabba (vocals, guitar), John Lefler (guitar), Scott Schoenbeck (bass) (formerly in The Promise Ring), and Mike Marsh (drums). Both John Lefler and Mike Marsh provide background vocals. Chris’ friend and guitarist John Ralston and violinist Susan Sherouse often perform and record with the group. As of 2006, they have released four EPs and five full-length albums, three of which have been certified gold by the RIAA.

Here is more on the band:

Brand New is a rock band from Merrick, New York on Long Island that formed in the early 2000s. They have released three albums. Their third album, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, was released in the US on November 21, 2006.

The band’s first song to see significant airplay was “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows,” which fell into heavy rotation on many radio stations during the summer of 2003, while they were on the Vans Warped Tour. The band’s videos have also previously been on Fuse TV, MTV, and MTV2.

On February 12, an interview was conducted in which Jesse stated that they were going to make another album.

In the late 1990s Jesse Lacey, Garrett Tierney and Brian Lane were all members of The Rookie Lot, a post-hardcore band largely influenced by groups like Lifetime, along with guitarists Brandon Reilly, who would go on to play guitar for The Movielife and front Nightmare of You, and Alex Dunne, who now plays guitar for Crime In Stereo.

After The Rookie Lot disbanded, Lacey and Lane started playing together again with Tierney joining them soon after. Then Vincent “Vin” Accardi joined, completing the band’s line-up. The band took the name “Brand New” from a Beastie Boys song of the same name. Their first release was a four-track demo, with Brandon Reilly performing with the band, and being produced by Mike Sapone, who would later go on to produce two of their later releases, and with this under their belt the band began touring around the Long Island scene.

For you reading pleasure, here is some Static-X trivia:

Static-X was formed in 1994 from the ashes of Wayne Static and Ken Jay’s former band, Deep Blue Dream. Static and Jay began searching for members for the new band in Chicago, but after useless search they decided to head to Los Angeles to continue their search. There they met bassist Tony Campos and guitarist Koichi Fukuda, completing the band’s original lineup.

Static-X signed with Warner Bros. Records in early 1998, and released their debut album, Wisconsin Death Trip, in March 23, 1999 and soon after, they released their first single “Push It”, followed by “I’m With Stupid” and “Bled For Days” in 2000. Static-X toured strictly in support of the album and twice performed on Ozzfest. In the following year the little-known EP, The Death Trip Continues, was released and the band contributed the song “Otsegolation” to the PlayStation video game, Omega Boost, and the song “Push It” to the game “Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes” also for the Playstation game console. In 2001, Wisconsin Death Trip went platinum and is to this date Static-X’s only album to reach this success.

Here is more on the band from their wiki:

Gym Class Heroes are a four-member indie hip hop band from Geneva, New York. The band is best known for their Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single “Cupid’s Chokehold” from Papercut Chronicles. Instead of just using the convential tools of hip hop production, Gym Class Heroes use live instruments, similar to artists such as Stetsasonic, The Roots, and Crown City Rockers.

The original Gym Class Heroes formed in 1997 when Travis McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley became friends during physical education class while at high school in Geneva, New York, and joined forces with guitarist Milo Bonacci and bassist Ryan Geise. The original GCH began playing birthday parties, clubs, and festivals which eventually led to numerous larger venues throughout the northeast, including two years on Warped Tour (2003, 2004). During this time, GCH released four self-produced CDs: “Hed Candy” (1999), “Greasy Kids Stuff” (2000), “For the Kids” (2001), and “Papercut Chronicles EP” (2004). After the release of “For the Kids”, lead singer Travis McCoy won MTV’s Direct Effect MC Battle and as a prize, he appeared in Styles P’s video “Daddy Get That Cash”.The current configuration of GCH formed in late 2004 when guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo and bassist Eric Roberts joined the group.
