Produced by Minneapolis-based VEE Corporation, the show opened on September 17, 1980, with a production of Sesame Street Live “Missing Bird Mystery” playing at the Met Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. Sesame Street Live is now produced as three or four separate tours, each performing a different show, with its own plot, characters, scenery, and soundtrack. Shows are performed in arenas and theatres around the world, generally working on an eight to ten month touring schedule ending in the spring and resuming in the late summer. While in the United States, Sesame Street Live is a bus and truck show, with the equipment moving by two or three trucks and the personnel travelling by bus. (This is contrasted with a show that travels by rail, such as the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus.) Outside of the United States, air cargo and sea containers are used.

Queensryche is coming to Phoenix for a show at the Dodge Theater. If you are a fan, you should check them out. Here is some info from wikipedia:

The band scheduled a special concert for Newsday Insiders on February 4, 2008 at Newsday’s auditorium in Melville, NY, but was forced to postpone the show due to heavy snowfall in Chicago.

On March 5, 2008, the band posted a bulletin on their Myspace page stating that a new album was in the recording stages.

It was announced on October 29 that the title of the new album would be American Soldier, a concept album about war from the perspective of those on the front lines.

On February 3, 2009 Mike Stone announced his departure from Queensryche to focus on his side-project Speed-X. Michael Wilton recorded all the guitar parts on American Soldier. Parker Lundgren, who played for Tate during his solo tour, will be replacing Stone for their 2009 tour.

The old musical Cats is coming to the Phoenix area. Come out to the ASU Gammage for the show. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Cats was first shown in London’s West End, at the New London Theatre, on May 11, 1981. It had a troubled beginning with Judi Dench cast in the role of Grizabella, which was subsequently taken over by Elaine Paige when Judi snapped a tendon during rehearsals prior to the London opening. The role was beefed up for Paige and ‘Memory’ (originally to be sung by Geraldine Gardner and cast in the role of the red cat Bombalurina) was given to Paige. It was originally produced onstage by Cameron Mackintosh and Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group. It was directed by Trevor Nunn, associate director and choreographer Gillian Lynne, designed by John Napier with lighting by David Hersey. It played a total of 8,949 performances in London. Its final performance in London’s West End was on its 21st birthday, May 11, 2002, and broadcast on a large screen in Covent Garden to the delight of fans who could not acquire a ticket for the final performance. It held the record as London’s longest running musical until October 8, 2006, when it was surpassed by Les Misérables.

Rent is a rock musical, with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of the Bohemian East Village, under the shadow of AIDS.

The musical was first seen in a limited two-week workshop run at the New York Theatre Workshop in 1994. This same New York City off-Broadway theatre was also the musical’s initial home following its official January 25, 1996, opening. Tragically, the show’s creator, Jonathan Larson, died suddenly the night before the off-Broadway premiere. The show won a Pulitzer Prize, and the production was a hit. The musical moved to Broadway’s larger Nederlander Theatre on April 29, 1996

This is a great movie, and I have never seen the stage show. It is playing at the ASU Gammage in the Phoenix area. Here is some info from wikipedia:

On April 16, 2002, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a stage musical based on the movie, opened at the London Palladium theatre. It was directed by Adrian Noble with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne and starred Michael Ball. This version of the show closed in September 2005.

After closing in London, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang took to the road on a UK European tour. The first stop was at the Sunderland Empire Theatre, where it previewed from December 9, 2005 and premiered on December 13, 2005 and also toured at Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Southampton and Edinburgh. It closed in Southampton on 16th September 2007 and then traveled to Singapore from 2nd November 2007 to 9th December. It played at the Alhambra Theatre Bradford from 11th February until 5th April 2008 and played a second time at the Sunderland Empire Theatre from 17th April to 7th June 2008. The Tour played its final venue at the Wales Millennium Centre on 3rd July to 30th August 2008.

I have never seen the show, but my in-laws have and they love it. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is coming to Phoenix for a show. Come to the Orpheum theater for the fun. Here is some info from wiki:

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the second British musical theatre show written by the team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Its predecessor, The Likes of Us, was not performed until 2005.

Based on the “coat of many colours” story of Joseph from the Bible, this light-hearted show was first presented as a fifteen-minute pop cantata at Colet Court School in London on March 1, 1968.

Chicago is a Kander and Ebb musical set in prohibition era Chicago. The book is by Ebb and Bob Fosse. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice, and the concept of the “celebrity criminal.” The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she had reported on.

The original 1975 Broadway production ran for a total of 936 performances. Bob Fosse choreographed the original production, and his style is strongly identified with the show. Chicago’s 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway (not counting the revue Oh! Plays make me happy inside. For a limited time the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is coming to Phoenix. Come out to the Orpheum Theater for the fun. Here is some info from wiki:

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a one act musical comedy with music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin. The show centers around a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups.

The 2005 Broadway production, directed by James Lapine, has earned good reviews and box-office success and was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning two, including Best Book. The show has spawned various other productions in the U.S., a national tour with performances two in Canada and Australian productions.

An unusual aspect of the show is that three or four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters. During the 2005 Tony Awards, former Presidential candidate Al Sharpton competed. Another amusing aspect of the show is that the official pronouncer, usually an improv comedian provides ridiculous usage-in-a-sentence examples when asked to use words in a sentence. The high duo Cheech and Chong are doing a comedy tour and they are coming to Phoenix. The show will be at the Dodge theater. If you don’t know who they are then go rent an old movie of theirs. Here is some info from wikipedia:

With Chong released, the duo planned to resume production on their latest opus. A variety of titles were rumored, including Grumpy Old Stoners. Romano, an Italian American (originally from Rogliano), was born in Queens, New York to Albert and Lucie Romano. He grew up in the Queens neighborhood of Forest Hills. Romano attended elementary and middle school at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills. After transferring from Archbishop Molloy High School, Romano graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1975. Jeff Dunham is an award winning ventriloquist and a stand-up comedian. He has performed on numerous comedy shows, including Comedy Central Presents in 2003. His usual puppets include a woozle named Peanut, a bitter old man named Walter, a dead terrorist named Achmed and José Jalapeño - a talking jalapeño pepper on a stick. His first DVD, Jeff Dunham: Arguing With Myself, was released in April 2006. In this stand-up offering, Jeff opens his show playing straight-man to his usual crew and includes two other characters: Sweet Daddy Dee and Bubba J. His new comedy special “Spark of Insanity” was available at Redbox stands on September 4, 2007[citation needed], and was released to buy on DVD September 18, 2007. The DVD features Peanut; José; Walter; Melvin, the Super Hero Guy; and Achmed the Dead Terrorist. The DVD was taped at the Warner Theater.
