Super Bowl XLII Tickets in Phoenix

Ahhhh Snap! The Super Bowl is come to Phoenix. This of off the hizzle for shizzle. Get your tickets here while you can. The game is at the University of Phoenix (Cardinals) Stadium. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Super Bowl XLII will be the 42nd annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL) between the National Football Conference (NFC) and American Football Conference (AFC) champions. The game is scheduled to be played following the 2007 regular season on February 3, 2008 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This will be the second time that the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area will host a Super Bowl game; Super Bowl XXX in January 1996 was played in Tempe’s Sun Devil Stadium.

The league contemplated the idea of holding Super Bowl XLII in either New York City or Washington, D.C. as a symbol of the recovery from the September 11, 2001 attacks. However, New York City was not even considered as a finalist for the following two reasons:

1. The proposed renovations to Giants Stadium were still being disputed among its stadium representatives.
2. At the time, New York City and the New York Jets still had not finalized a plan to build the new West Side Stadium (Ultimately, the deal fell through).

When NFL owners awarded Super Bowl XLII to Glendale during their October 30, 2003 meeting in Chicago, Illinois, they rejected Washington because they preferred a warmer and drier climate.

During a February 6, 2007 ceremony with Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, the NFL and the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee unveiled the slogan “Who Wants It More?” along with its mascot “Spike the Super Ball” (an anthropomorphized football with sunglasses and sneakers) and a large “Super Bowl XLII Countdown Clock” at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The Super Bowl XLII logo was also unveiled, featuring the shape of the state of Arizona in red. The two horizontal white stripes in the middle represent the vertical lines on the University of Phoenix Stadium. The turquoise Roman Numerals represent the Native American culture of Arizona. The red star represents the AFC and the blue star represents the NFC.

The St. Louis Rams are a professional American football team based in St. Louis, Missouri. They are currently members of the Western Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team has won three NFL Championships including one Super Bowl.

The Rams began playing in 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio as a second incarnation of the previous Cleveland Rams team that was a charter member of the 1936-37 American Football League. Although the NFL granted membership to the same owner, this new NFL franchise technically became a separate entity since only four of the players (William “Bud” Cooper, Harry “The Horse” Mattos, Stan Pincura, Mike Sebastian) and none of the team’s personnel joined the new NFL team.[1]

The team then became known as the Los Angeles Rams after the club moved to Los Angeles, California in 1946. Following the 1979 season, the Rams moved south to the suburbs in nearby Orange County, playing their home games at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim for fifteen seasons (1980-94), keeping the Los Angeles name. The club moved east to St. Louis prior to the 1995 season.

The Detroit Lions are an American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. Originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and called the Portsmouth Spartans, the team began play in 1929 as an independent professional team [1], one of many such teams in the Ohio and Scioto River valleys. For the 1930 season, the Spartans formally joined the National Football League (NFL) as the other area independents folded because of the Great Depression. Despite success within the NFL, they could not survive in Portsmouth, then the NFL’s smallest city. The team was purchased and moved to Detroit for the 1934 season.

The Lions have won four pre-Super Bowl NFL Championships, the last in 1957, but have yet to qualify for the modern day Super Bowl.

Fiesta Bowl Tickets in Phoenix Arizona

By: Phoenix Tickets Finder    Category: University of Phoenix (Cardinals) Stadium Tickets, Sports

A week before the BCS National Championship game is played here in Phoenix (well Glendale actually) the annual Fiesta Bowl will be played. The game is slated to feature the Big 12 champ (unless Texas or whoever can sneak into the championship game and an at-large team (I guess.) Any way you look at it the game will be a good one with two heavyweight college programs clashing on a massive stage.

Tickets won’t be cheap but they will seem cheap compared to the prices the championship game will cost. Here is how where you should look to find tickets to this game.

A. Check these ticket brokers below. These advertisers are aggressive enough to buy this spot so they are worth checking out I think:

B. Come back here and check the following three places:

We Have Seats currently has tickets from $175-875
Stubhub will hook you up between $190 and $1000+
TicketsNow has seats from $185 to $1000+

May the Tostitos Force be with you. Here is some Fiesta Bowl info from the wiki:

The Fiesta Bowl, now sponsored by Tostitos tortilla chips (a Frito-Lay product), is a United States college football game played annually since 1971. Originally, the game was hosted in Tempe, Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium where it remained until 2006. Previous bowl game sponsors included Sunkist and IBM’s OS/2 system.

In 1999 the Fiesta Bowl became part of the Bowl Championship Series, and every four years (most recently in 2003) is the designee for the national championship game. In January 2007, the game will be played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, along with the new stand-alone BCS National Championship Game. In the BCS alignment the bowl will host the Big 12 Conference champion unless they are involved in the national championship game.

2007 BCS National Championship Game Tickets in Phoenix Arizona

By: Phoenix Tickets Finder    Category: University of Phoenix (Cardinals) Stadium Tickets, Sports

Look, we all know the BCS is a totally corrupt cartel that is designed to horde all the college football money for six insider conferences and which is dead set against any kind of playoff system that would tell us the actual national champion of Division I football every year… But that doesn’t mean going to the BCS championship game wouldn’t be fun anyway!

Yeah, it’s true that we don’t know who will play against Ohio State in the game yet this year. [Update: Looks like the University of Florida Gators are in and the Michigan Wolverines are out. Sorry Michigan — you may very well be the best team in the country but until they scrap this crapfest called the BCS and implement a playoff we’ll never know] But we do know it will be a sellout and that means that if you want to get in you’ll need to get them from the ticket brokers. Here is how I recommend you go about it.

Step 1 - Check prices at some of these ticket vendors:

Cardinals vs. Seahawks Tickets

By: Phoenix Tickets Finder    Category: University of Phoenix (Cardinals) Stadium Tickets, Sports

Yeah I know it looks like a blowout on paper, but games aren’t played on paper; they’re played on the field. These NFC West rivals take each on every year and you never know what will happen. And if nothing else, it would give you a chance to see an NFL game in what is being called the best stadium in the NFL — the brand new University of Phoenix Stadium (formerly Cardinals Stadium). Tickets start as low a $33 (at StubHub) so it won’t even necessarily break the bank to go to a game. (Though you know parking is pretty expensive when people are selling parking passes through the brokers too…). Anyway, here are the places I recommend you look online if you are hoping to see a Cardinals home game this season:

Cardinal Stadium in Glendale now University of Phoenix Stadium

By: Phoenix Tickets Finder    Category: University of Phoenix (Cardinals) Stadium Tickets

That’s right folks, for a mere $155 million you too could have had a major NFL-ready stadium named after you for the next 20 years. But you’re too late here in Phoenix; The University of Phoenix already snapped up the naming rights to the former Cardinal Stadium.

For those of you not familiar with University of Phoenix there is this from their wiki:

University of Phoenix (UOP) is a for-profit educational institution specializing in adult education, with campuses located throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. UOP was founded in 1976 by Dr. John Sperling. In the early 1970’s, at San Jose State University in California, Sperling and several associates conducted field-based research in adult education. The focus of the research was to explore teaching/learning systems for the delivery of educational programs and services to working adult students who wished to complete or further their education in ways that complemented both their experience and current professional responsibilities. At that time colleges and universities were organized primarily around serving the needs of the 18-22 year old undergraduate student. That is not at all surprising, given that the large majority of those enrolled were residential students of traditional college age, just out of high school. According to Sperling, working adult students were often “invisible” on traditional campuses and treated as second-class citizens.

In other words, it is college for people with real jobs already. Last I checked there are more than 150,000 students enrolled and I’m guessing that number will double or triple in a few years with this kind of exposure. If they can afford the deal then I say good for them.

Arizona Cardinals Tickets

By: Phoenix Tickets Finder    Category: University of Phoenix (Cardinals) Stadium Tickets, Sports

This is the year! This is the year the Cards won’t suck! (Or maybe not…)

Ok, now that we have that established the next trick is getting your hands on tickets to see the Arizona Cardinals in their shiny new stadium. Tickets sell out fast but the ticket brokers almost always seem to have seats anyway. I like We Have Seats for the best prices; TicketsNow for solid inventory; and StubHub for unique seats and the ability to buy and sell.

Anyway, feast on these Cardinal trivia points while you hunt for seats (from the wiki):

New stadium, new attitude (2006)

In 2000, Maricopa County voters passed a ballot initiative by a margin of 51% to 49%, providing funding for a new Cardinals stadium (as well as for improvements to Major League Baseball spring training facilities in the greater Phoenix region; and youth recreation). After some legal obstacles, the Cardinals began construction of their new facility in April 2003, in Glendale, one of the northwest suburbs of Phoenix. Cardinals Stadium features a retractable roof and a slide-out grass surface, which is good for the hot desert weather; the new stadium has a state-of-the-art air conditioning system and high-back seats.

Although no one in the organization admits it publicly, Sun Devil Stadium has widely been blamed for the Cardinals’ woes in their 18-year stay in Arizona. The Cardinals had no control of parking revenue or other streams of income available to most teams.

The 63,500-seat stadium (expandable to 72,800) opened on August 12, 2006 when the Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-13, in a preseason game. The first regular season game is set for September 10 against the San Francisco 49ers, the first time the Cardinals will play on the opening weekend of the NFL season at home since moving to Arizona in 1988. In 2008, the stadium will host Super Bowl XLII.

It does appear that the future may turn brighter for the team. On Sunday, March 12, 2006, the Cardinals acquired former Colts RB Edgerrin James through free agency, by signing him to a four-year, $30 million contract.

Additionally, on Saturday, April 30, 2006, the Cardinals drafted the 2004 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Matt Leinart with the 10th pick of the NFL Draft. Leinart played for the University of Southern California and won 1 1/2 national championships with the team in 2004.

Leinart missed the first two weeks of the 2006 Cardinals training camp (and the opening game of the preseason) due to prolonged contract negotiations, but on August 15, the Arizona Republic, KTAR radio and ESPN reported that Leinart agreed to a six-year contract that could earn him a maximum of $51 million, according to his agent, Tom Condon. The contract reportedly contains $14 million in guaranteed money, and likely involves “escalator” clauses that could increase Leinart’s salary in the later years of the deal should he meet certain playing-time incentives.

Also in the 2006 draft, the Cardinals would select another USC alum, Guard Taitusi “Deuce” Latui in the 3rd round, followed by Georgia TE Leonard Pope, Michigan DT Gabriel Watson, Louisville LB Brandon Johnson, Virginia Tech DT Jonathan Lewis, and Brigham Young WR Todd Watkins. This as well as the dynamic duo that is Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald at WR could make the Cardinals a serious threat in the NFC West.

Let’s hope that the new players, new stadium, and new season make for a big season!

I like these guys for the best prices; these guys for best inventory; and these guys for unique seats and the ability to buy and sell.

Anyway, feast on these Cardinal trivia points while you hunt for seats (from the wiki):

The Cardinals are the oldest existing professional American football club in the United States. The team was formed in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago, Illinois. The club was then called the Racine Normals since they were originally located on Racine Avenue (not Racine, Wisconsin, as mistaken by many) but moved to Chicago’s Normal Field. They then changed their name to the Racine Cardinals after they started wearing cardinal-red uniforms.

After becoming a charter member of the NFL in 1920, the club was renamed the Chicago Cardinals. The Cardinals moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1960, becoming the St. Louis Cardinals, before relocating to the Phoenix area in 1988. The team was known as the Phoenix Cardinals before it started using “Arizona” in its name in 1994.

Despite moving to St. Louis and then to Arizona, the Cardinals had always remained in either an Eastern conference or division. When the league was divided into Eastern and Western conferences prior to the 1953 season, the Cardinals were placed in the East while the Chicago Bears were placed in the West. After the 1970 AFL-NFL Merger, the team was placed in the NFC East. The Cardinals were finally moved to the NFC West as part of the 2002 realignment.

The Cardinals have historically been known as a chronic loser. They were NFL Champions in 1925 and 1947. However, the team has not won a league title since then, and thus currently holds the NFL record for the longest championship drought. The team has also won only two division titles (1974 and 1975) since their 1947 NFL championship. Despite being the oldest existing professional football franchise in the United States, the Cardinals have an all-time postseason record of 2-5 (not counting the 1964 Bert Bell Benefit Bowl).

The oldest club in the NFL?? Who knew? (Yeah we already knew about the chronic loser rep… that changes this year though, baby!)
